Its a tough question to answer because every job presents different factors. Such as; Tree type, and terrain surrounding the job. A rotten pine stump is going to take far less time to grind then a hard maple or oak that was just cut down.

The difference between stump grinding and stump removal is that when "removing", the stump gets dug out with an excavator.Removal is a much more involved project. Stump grinding uses a different approach and is much more common. Stump grinding involves using a machine with a spinning wheel with teeth on it and chews apart the stump.
When considering the option of renting a grinder, remember to factor in your time, and will need the proper safety equipment to operate the machine. It is not uncommon to pay up to $400.00 per day to rent a stump grinder. In a lot of instances my estimate comes in close to the same price as renting. This frees up your time.

Most companies just grind the stump to grade level. This is not acceptable if you are planning to grow grass. We Grind 4-8 inches below grade.
